NN-891102

TORONTO PREMIERE
Reiichi (Takaya Hasegawa), an 18-year-old survivor of the bombing of Nagasaki has in his possession an astounding document of that tragic day -the sound of the “Fat Man” atomic bomb detonating on August 9th, 1945 at 11:02AM. At first he is appalled by this recording, but as time goes by he becomes obsessed with his memories of his life before and after the bombing, and most disturbingly, recreating this terrifying sound captured on audio tape… a process that will jeopardize his sanity and his life.
NN-891102 is the debut feature film by Osaka’s Go Shibata, the director who brought us the horrifying and groundbreaking serial killer drama Late Bloomer. Shibata uses elements of shadow puppetry, kamishibai, or paper theatre storytelling and benshi narration and combines them with surreal visuals and an experimental noise soundtrack to tell the story of one man’s descent into memory, grief, and madness.
