After accidentally killing a ladybug Eiko, the heroine/ alter ego of artist and animator Akino Kondoh, goes on an Alice in Wonderland-like odyssey through childhood memory, nature, and the world as seen through a bugs eyes’ view. An animated adaptation of Kondoh’s 2003 manga of the same name Ladybirds’ Requiem has screened to admiring audiences at galleries and theatres worldwide.

Director’s Bio

Born in 1980 in Chiba Prefecture Akino Kondoh began drawing manga at the age of 18. While studying at the Tama University Department of Graphic Design her creativity branched off into painting and animation. Her first animated film The Evening Traveling was produced while still a student at Tama University. Since graduating Kondoh’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions from Tokyo to Stockholm, and her manga have been translated and published in France by Le Lizard Noir. She is currently based in Queens, New York.
