Shinsedai Cinema Festival teams up with Film Fort for Seconds Under the Sun

by Chris Magee on August 3, 2009

KondohAugust has arrived and we are only three short weeks to the The Shinsedai Cinema Festival. We have planned what we think is one of the most exciting film events in Toronto this summer, but we wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about another Japanese film event taking place in the days leading up to the festival, one that we are happy to be co-sponsoring.

Seconds Under the Sun, an evening of experimental Japanese animation is being presented on Tuesday, August 18th by Film Fort, a monthly
screening event in Toronto and hosted by The Function 13 Gallery in the heart of Kensington Market.

Curator Naomi Hocura has brought together the work of 15 established and up and coming Japanese animators whose work goes well beyond the realms of popular anime. Some of the animators included in the line-up are Kihachiro Kawamoto, the creator of the stop-motion puppet film “Book of the Dead”, Kei Oyama, and Daisuke Ichiba. Along with these animators Seconds Under the Sun is also featuring work by artist Akino Kondoh and indie animator Naoyuki Tsuji, both of whom have additional films in the Shinsedai Cinema Festival line-up just a few days later.

Again, Seconds Under the Sun is taking place on August 18th at 8:30 PM at the Function 13 Gallery (156 Augusta Ave). If you are looking for a great way to gear up for the Shinsedai Cinema Festival then check out the Film Fort blog for more info on the event.
