We’ve already told you about one great way to spend some time between screenings at the Shinsedai Cinema Festival, namely the final weekend of the JCCC’s Gendai Gallery’s exhibit The Arts of Togetherness, but now we wanted to share news of another exhibit taking place at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre during Shinsedai that you may want to check out.
Then and Now: Tradition in Today’s Japan is a collection of work by Toronto-based photographer Kiely Ramos. Having lived in Japan for six years after graduating from the Still Photography program at Ryerson University Ramos had the unique opportunity to enter into the worlds of kabuki theatre, sumo wrestling and traditional Shinto ceremonies. It’s these glimpses into aspects of Japanese culture rarely glimpsed by foreigners that make up this fascinating exhibition.
Then and Now: Tradition in Today’s Japan is made possible by the generous support of The Ontario Arts Council. For more information on Kiely Ramos check out her official website kielyramos.com.
